Application process. Every two years a call for nominations will be sent out. Nominations for the Ahmed Zewail Prize in Molecular Sciences should consist of a covering letter with a statement of the contributions made (max 2 pages), a brief biographical sketch, and a list of no more than 15 publications.
The Ahmed Zewail Prize in Molecular Sciences is awarded on a biennial basis to an individual scientist who has made significant and creative contributions, particularly those of a fundamental nature, to any of the disciplines of molecular sciences.

Zewail, in full Ahmed Hassan Zewail, (born February 26, 1946, Damanhur, Egypt—died August 2, 2016, Pasadena, California, U.S.), Egyptian-born chemist who won the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1999 for developing a rapid laser technique that enabled scientists to study the action of atoms during chemical reactions.
The Nobel prize (1999) in Chemistry was awarded to Ahmed Hassan Zewail for developing a highly sophisticated form of flash photography.
Zewail wins Nobel Prize PASADENA—Dr. Ahmed H. Zewail has won the 1999 Nobel Prize in chemistry for his groundbreaking work in viewing and studying chemical reactions at the atomic level as they occur. The announcement was made today by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.
Over his lifetime Zewail published over 600 papers and 14 books, including “The Chemical Bond: Structure and Dynamics” in 1992 and “Physical Biology: From Atoms to Medicine” in 2008. In 1999 Ahmed Zewail received the Nobel Prize for Chemistry, he was the third Egyptian national but first in the field of science to win this prize.
Zewail himself published 100 papers in CPL. Following Zewail's retirement as editor in 2007, the remaining editors (Clary, Villy Sundstrom and Mitchio Okumura) proposed to Elsevier (the publishers) the establishment of a biennial Ahmed Zewail Prize in Molecular Sciences, and to date there have been seven recipients, including David Buckingham.
